DePaul’s Fundamental Research in Academic Gaming group, more commonly referred to as DeFrag, allows students to interface with like-minded individuals regardless of skill level. “[DeFrag] is something fun to do that gives students more of a connectedness to the university,” explains Charley Wilcox, DeFrag founder and instructor of telecommunication and networking. The club sponsors activities like Geek Till Dawn, an all-night movie and gaming event in the College of Computing and Digital Media, and Project Nightlight, a game development competition, as well as charitable gaming marathons that benefit the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Whether an individual is a master at World of Warcraft or skilled in the art of Sorry!, there’s something for everyone at DeFrag.
